How do I know if it is time to apply for my child?

If your child was born between September 1 2009 and August 31 2010, they are due to start secondary school in September 2021.

From September 1, letters have been posted out to parents of children in Year 6 which set out the application process and invite them to apply.

How do I apply?

The easiest way to submit an application is via the online form at School admissions.

You can also telephone 01642 526605 to request a paper copy, or download one from our website if necessary.

When is the deadline?

The deadline to apply is Saturday October 31 2020. Any late applications will only be considered after those made on time have been processed.

How many schools can I apply for?

Four. To give you the best chance of getting into a local school it is important to use all four preferences available to you.

When will I find out what place has been allocated to my child?

Anyone who applied online (and ticked the option to receive an email) will receive an email on Monday March 1 2021 informing them of the school they have been offered. A letter will be sent to parents who completed a paper application.

What do Councillors say?

Councillor Lisa Evans, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Choosing a secondary school can be an overwhelming experience and I appreciate it must feel strange when schools have only just gone back due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is why we try to make the admission process as easy as possible for everyone.

"It's important to carefully consider your options when picking a secondary school and do some research by looking at each school's website and prospectus. You should also think about how your child will travel to school so take a look at our school transport policy.

"Secondary schools also normally offer an open evening for parents, but this may change due to the current pandemic. Please check directly with each school you are interested in as virtual open evenings may be offered if face to face visits aren't possible.

"We receive thousands of applications each year and with the tight admission window it's really important you complete the form as soon as possible."
