Are you registered to vote? Don't miss the deadline before May's elections

Residents in Stockton-on-Tees have been urged to ensure they're registered to vote ahead of this May's elections.

There are seven elections taking place on Thursday May 6, including the Tees Valley Combined Authority Mayoral and Police and Crime Commissioner elections.

There will also be Borough by-elections for Councillors in the wards of Bishopsgarth and Elm Tree, Billingham West, Hartburn, Western Parishes and Yarm.

To vote in these elections, you must be registered to vote before midnight on Monday April 19.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Assistant Director of Administration, Democratic and Electoral Services, Margaret Waggott, said: "It's really quick and easy to register to vote and you can do it in just a few minutes.

"The best way to register is by visiting or alternatively you can call 01642 526196 if you're unable to register online.

"Thousands of residents have also signed up for a postal vote and if you're planning to do the same, make sure to get your application in early."

The deadline to register for a postal vote or make a change to an existing postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday April 20.

To apply for a postal vote, call Registration Helpline on 01642 526196.

You can also register to vote by proxy, where you appoint someone you trust to vote on your behalf. You can do this by calling 01642 526196.

The deadline to put forward a new proxy vote to be made at a polling station is 5pm on Tuesday April 27.

However, you must register a new postal proxy vote or update an existing postal proxy vote before 5pm on Tuesday April 20.
