Applications for primary school places for children across the Stockton-on-Tees Borough starting school in 2024 are now open.

Parents and carers are being urged to submit their applications as soon as possible from today (Monday, November 13).

How do I know it is time to apply for my child's primary school place?

If your child was born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020, they will start primary school in September 2024.

We will send letters out in November informing you how to apply for a primary place for September 2024. If you have not received a letter by the 17 November 2023 please contact the School Admissions Team.

How do I apply?

You can apply using the online form on the primary school admissions page.

Alternatively, you can call the admissions team on 01642 526605 or contact them via email at school.admissions@stockton.gov.uk.

When is the deadline?

The deadline for applications is Monday 15 January 2024.

Any applications received after this date will be classed as late and will not be considered until after those made on time have been processed.

My child attends a nursery - do I still need to apply?

Yes. There's no automatic transfer from nursery to primary school so you must apply even if your child goes to a school nursery.

How many schools can I apply for?

You may apply for up to three schools and you can provide reasons for your choices in your application.

When will I find out which school my child has got a place at?

If you apply online and select to receive an email, you'll be emailed on Tuesday 16 April 2024 informing you of your child's allocated place.

Paper applicants and those who did not select to receive an email will receive a letter notifying you of your child's school place via second class post.

My child was born between April and August - what are my options?

If your child was born between 1 April and 31 August you may request that they start reception a year later (delayed admission). If you are interested in delaying their start at primary school to the next academic year, you must make this clear and known on your application so the request can be considered.

A word from the Cabinet Member...

Councillor Lisa Evans, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: "Starting primary school is a huge step in any child's life so to make the process as easy as possible I would encourage parents and carers to submit their choice of schools in good time.

"You can choose up to three schools and my advice is to use all three to stand the best chance of securing a place at a school of your preference."

Where can I get more information?
