4 April 2025

At the Council's AGM on Wednesday 2 April, Councillor Lisa Evans was elected to become the new Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, replacing Councillor Bob Cook.

I am delighted to have been elected to be the new Leader of Stockon-on-Tees Borough Council.

I attended the Council's Annual General Meeting on Wednesday. After the formal business proceedings of the meeting, it was inspiring to hear about the retiring Mayor's Civic Award winners this year. It's important that we recognise some of the selfless and amazing work that happens in the Borough, and the Civic Awards are just a small way of saying "thank you" to the worthy winners.

Following the AGM, I sat down with my new Cabinet members. I'm looking forward to working with the new Cabinet, which consists of:

·       Councillor Paul Rowling, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Resources and Transport

·       Councillor Pauline Beall, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care

·       Councillor Clare Besford, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People

·       Councillor Nigel Cooke, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Culture

·       Councillor Richard Eglington, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing

·       Councillor Norma Stephenson, Cabinet Member for Access, Communities and Community Safety

Yesterday I met with Jonathan Nertney, Head of Democratic Services, to talk through each of the Cabinet members' portfolios.

This week has consisted of a lot of "settling in" to the new role as Leader, and I'm really looking forward to the coming weeks.
