Friday 4 June 2021

I hope you all had an enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend however you spent it. I made the most of the opportunity presented by a slightly clearer diary on Tuesday to catch up on some important Council paperwork.

On Wednesday I joined Garry Cummings, Director of Finance, Development and Business Services and Chris Renahan, Assistant Director of Inclusive Growth and Development, for my monthly briefing on our latest progress regarding a number of business and regeneration programmes we're driving forward.

This was followed by a minister-led webinar with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to update Council Leaders, Chief Executives and political group leaders from across the country on key current topics. This webinar is due to be hosted by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Robert Jenrick MP.

On Thursday there was a meeting between Cabinet Members and the Council's Corporate Management Team (CMT) to discuss a number of developing issues across the Borough and the status of some projects.

This afternoon I will be joining the Deputy Leader, Councillor Jim Beall, to meet with the Council's Managing Director, Julie Danks. This is our regular catch-up meeting to ensure we are fully up to speed on all things relating to our response to the latest challenges posed by COVID-19 and any other outstanding issues.

Over the weekend I am looking forward to spending some time with my family. I'll be tuning in to England's friendly against Romania on Sunday which is our last warm-up game before the real business of the European Championships starts next week.
