Winter Service Policy
Purpose and aim of the policy
The Council's vision is to make the Borough a place where people are healthy, safe and protected from harm, a place with a thriving economy where everyone has opportunities to succeed and a place that is clean, vibrant and attractive.
The Council recognises that the businesses and people of Stockton-on-Tees are part of a thriving and productive Tees Valley economy; a City Region that is driving economic growth across northern and national economies.
In line with this vision and awareness, particularly with reference to economy, education and employment, the Council's winter service policy is a key component in maintaining a safe transport network to ensure reliable access to many places of work and learning during wintry conditions. It also supports the Council's work with the Tees Valley Combined Authority on improving regional economic and transport infrastructure.
The objective of the Winter Service provided by the Council is to maintain transport links, minimise the risk of accidents and endeavour to enable everyday life to continue during wintry conditions. In doing so it addresses the issues of safety, highway availability, sustainability and ensures that delays to the travelling public are kept to a minimum on the treated network to the benefit of the community and the economy.
