Friday 15 October

My week began with a useful briefing from the Council's Assistant Director of Administration, Democratic and Electoral Services, Margaret Waggott.

This was then followed by my usual fortnightly catch up with our Managing Director, Julie Danks, and Deputy Leader, Councillor Jim Beall, to discuss the latest coronavirus developments in the Borough.

On Tuesday I attended a General Licensing Committee meeting, which was held in person at the Jim Cooke conference suite.

I then undertook some filming with the media team as part of work to promote the 'A Fairer Stockton-on-Tees' strategy. You can keep an eye out for more on this on the Council's news pages..

It was really interesting to attend the opening of the 'Behind the Seams' exhibition at Preston Park Museum and Grounds on Tuesday evening. The exhibition features some iconic costumes from TV shows and films gone by.

On Wednesday I joined other Leaders from across the Tees Valley for a local authority stakeholder event. This was focused on the recruitment of the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care System Chief Executive.

There was a full Cabinet meeting on Thursday and there were a range of items on the agenda, including the 'A Fairer Stockton-on-Tees' strategy, the Council's Armed Forces Covenant and the Adult Social Care Strategy.

Today I have had a briefing from Shona Duncan at the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA). Shona is Head of Employment, Engagement and Skills at TVCA and it's always beneficial to get an update as this falls under my portfolio as a TVCA Cabinet Member.

At the weekend I'm looking forward to Middlesbrough's game against Peterborough. It's been an indifferent start to the season for Boro and getting close to a level of consistency will be key to boosting Neil Warnock's team up the table.
