Council another step closer to delivering new long-stay parking site in Yarm

Another parking option in Yarm is moving a step closer to fruition with work at a site off the town's West Street gearing up.

Demolition of the Arncliffe Buildings is due to begin week commencing Monday 8 November to make way for the construction of a 59-space long-stay pay and display car park.

A 'soft strip' of the site, to remove all non-structural elements inside and outside of the buildings ahead of the demolition, got underway last week.

The latest progress follows the submission of a planning application earlier this year, with permission granted to proceed with the development in June.

Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: "It's taken a lot of work and we know that people have been really patient while our plans for more parking at this site were developed.

"But I'm pleased to say that preparations for the demolition of the Arncliffe Buildings are in full swing ahead of them coming down in November.

"We're confident that delivering this much-needed site in Yarm will pay off as a very valuable additional option for long-stay parking in the town that makes a real difference."

Edward Yuill, Managing Director of the Mowden Park Estate Company (part of the Yuill Group), said: "We are pleased that the development is underway.

"Our team comprising of Sintons Solicitors, Greig Cavey Commercial Chartered Surveyors, BGP Consulting Engineers and GRP Demolition have worked hard in collaboration with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council to ensure this milestone could be reached."

Construction of the car park will begin early in the new year with a view to opening to the public in late spring.
