Plans are underway to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee across the Stockton-on-Tees Borough in June.

A Bank Holiday weekend is taking place from Thursday, June 2 until Sunday, June 5 to mark 70 years since the Queen took to the throne.

And Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is planning a series of events for the occasion.

Here's what you can expect.

Beacon-lighting ceremony

A beacon-lighting ceremony will take place outside Stockton Town Hall at 8.30pm on Thursday, June 2.

The Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees will light a beacon as we join thousands of others who will simultaneously do the same across the country.

The Council will also support Town and Parish Councils across the Borough who are looking to host their own beacon-lighting ceremonies.

Free, live music event!

There'll be a free, live music event on Saturday, June 4 from 6pm until 10pm.

In partnership with Tees Music Alliance and KU Bar, bands will perform iconic songs from across the Queen's 70-year reign.

The event is also set to have a bar, food and will finish with a few fireworks.

More details on the acts performing will be announced in due course.

Big Jubilee Lunch

Residents from the Borough and beyond will be invited to bring a picnic for the 'Big Jubilee Lunch' at Tees Barrage on Sunday, June 5 from 11am until 3pm.

It's set to be a fun afternoon featuring brass bands, choirs and plenty of flag waving.

There'll also be parades, poetry performances and a range of activities to try, including flag-making, biscuit decorating and origami.

Get involved with our digital programme

If you can't attend any of the events, you can still get involved from home.

There'll be a range of royal activities, including a poetry competition, songs to learn and video tutorials on how to make your own traditional sweet treats.

Or you could have a street party!

There are a number of street parties set to take place across the Borough.

What do Councillors think?

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: "The range of events we've got planned for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee are really exciting - and there promises to be something for all the family.

"It's certainly going to be a fitting way to mark the Platinum Jubilee - and everyone can get involved whether in person or through our digital programme.

"We'll have further details as we move closer to June, so please stay tuned for more information to come via our website and social media channels."
