Tell your tale: Project to ensure Stockton-on-Tees Borough stories are celebrated
Memories of yesteryear, childhood tales, stories of first jobs, lost loves and friendships are to be celebrated and preserved in a new project which will culminate in an exhibition at Preston Park Museum.
It's all part of the 'In Living Memory' project being run by the Borough's seven Community Partnerships. The Partnerships are asking people from across Stockton-on-Tees to come forward with their stories, to share their memories and donate interesting memorabilia which tells tales of the past. The project will make sure that peoples' memories are not forgotten and remain in living memory for years to come.
Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "In Living Memory is a project celebrating our Borough's hidden stories and history. We want to uncover people's tales - and their experiences of living or working in Stockton-on-Tees and so far, we've had some real gems which I know people will find fascinating.
"From a 100-year old Thornaby lady, who has told us about playing with her ten siblings in her back yard in Walker Street to Brenda and Jean, firm friends for over 50 years. Brenda worked at the popular Stockton town centre, toy shop Leslie Brown in the late 1950s, and I'm sure many of our residents will have fond memories of that shop!
"It's so important that we hear and remember stories of people who don't always get to tell their tale. We're looking to hear from people from across all the seven partnerships and we will be collating these memories, along with items people want to share, into an 'In Living Memory' exhibition at Preston Park Museum in April.
"We want to hear from people of all ages and backgrounds so don't delay, if you have a story to tell, please do get in touch."

When will the exhibition be on?
The 'In Living Memory' exhibition will be held from 29 April to 16 May 2022 at Preston Park Museum. It will then go on tour across the Borough. Keep checking social media for details.
