Building Grant information

Eligible project works include shop fronts, windows, roofs, rainwater goods and structural repairs.

Grant funding is available for up to 73.5 per cent of eligible scheme costs.

A Townscape Project officer can also support you on the application process.

Stage one - Meet the Townscape Heritage team

  • arrange a meeting with a Townscape Heritage Project officer and a site visit
  • you will be made aware of the value of the grant award available for your property
  • discuss the initial scope of the scheme and what is eligible for grant assistance
  • agree to proceed with the application

 

Stage two - Engage a design specialist

  • appoint an appropriate design specialist to assist you with the project and grant application
  • you must procure the design specialist in line with the guidance to ensure associated fees are grant eligible
  • continue to meet with the Townscape Heritage Project team so any queries are resolved
  • agree what further surveys and reports are required as part of the scheme
  • you will be liable for any costs associated with this stage of the project until a successful grant application has been awarded

 

Stage three - Project development

  • continue to meet with the team so the scope of the scheme and priorities can be agreed
  • prepare and submit a building condition survey
  • commission any further surveys and reports that are required as part of the scheme
  • work with the design specialist to develop plans for the scheme, including specifications and a schedule of work
  • apply for planning or listed building consents and any other approvals that may be required

 

Stage four - Getting quotations

  • prepare a quotation or tender document and get a minimum of three competitive prices for the approved scheme
  • you must only invite tenders from contractors that can demonstrate a reputable experience of working on heritage conservation projects

 

Stage five - Grant application

  • submit your grant application to the Townscape Heritage Project officer 
  • the application will be submitted for approval when the officer is satisfied everything is in place
  • the approval process involved a Council programme group making a recommendation to the Townscape Heritage Grant Approval Panel

 

Stage six - Grant offer

  • your grant application is successful
  • you will need to sign a third party agreement that sets out the conditions of the grant approval
  • initial funding will be released to cover fees

 

Stage seven - Grant works

  • works can commence on site after planning and other approvals are received and the third party agreement is signed
  • continue to meet with the team to update on the progress on site
  • works must be signed off by your conservation specialist to ensure they have been undertaken in accordance with the plans and to the required heritage standard
  • a site visit will take place by the Townscape Heritage Project officer to ensure the completion of the works
  • you will pay any invoices from the building contractor
  • grant funding will be released upon receipt of paid invoices from the building contractor for completed works
