05 August 2022

I'd like to start this week by saying a big congratulations to the England Lionesses! It was fantastic to watch them beat Germany 2-1 to be crowned European champions! They have lifted the trophy and lifted the nation and given us so much to be proud of.

This week has been relatively free of meetings and regular business due to the summer break many organisations take at this time of year, and it's been a welcome opportunity for me to catch up on work in the office.

But as usual my week began with my regular Monday catch up with Managing Director Julie Danks and Deputy Leader Cllr Lisa Evans to discuss any ongoing business.

Yesterday I had a useful Finance, Development & Regeneration portfolio briefing from senior managers which included updates on the Healthy Streets initiative, school investment strategy and the Council Tax energy rebate.

Then it was my pleasure to join the thousands of visitors from the borough and beyond to watch the spectacular launch show for this year's Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF). It truly is wonderful to welcome back the world-renowned festival after a two year hiatus due to Covid. As always SIRF offers a wealth of free entertainment for all the family and runs until Sunday - so make sure not to miss it!

This weekend I'm looking forward to spending time with my family and taking in many more of the delights and thrills of SIRF. I'll also be watching how Middlesbrough get on as they head to QPR this weekend, looking to get their first win of the season.
