Parents and carers across the Stockton-on-Tees Borough are being urged to get their child's secondary school application sent in.

Applications for children starting secondary school in September 2023 can be submitted from today (September 12).

Here's all you need to know.

How do I know if it is time to apply for my child?

If your child was born between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012, they are set to start secondary school in September next year.

Letters have been posted out to parents and carers of children in Year 6 which sets out the application process.

How do I apply?

The easiest way to apply is by filling out the online form.

You can also telephone 01642 526605 to request a paper copy or download a form from the Council's website.

Parents and carers can apply for up to four different schools for their child.

When is the application deadline?

The deadline to apply is Monday, October 31.

Any late applications will only be considered after those made on time have been processed.

When will I find out what place has been allocated to my child?

Anyone who chose to be notified via email will receive an email on Wednesday March 1, 2023 informing them of the school they have been offered.

A letter will be sent to parents who chose to be told via post on March 1, 2023.

What do Councillors think?

Councillor Lisa Evans, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "The step from primary school to secondary school is a big moment in your child's life, so I'd urge you all to give it plenty of time and consideration before applying and make use of the four spots available.

"There's lots of research you can do, like viewing the school's website and prospectus, as well as going along to open evenings.

"And of course it's quite a tight turnaround, so make sure you get your application in on time and don't run the risk of missing out on your preferred school."
