John Whitehead Park

John Whitehead park includes a skate park, play area, muti-use games area, outdoor gym, tennis courts and a bowls club, making this a great place to get active. You can also re-fuel with refreshments from the café or enjoy a picnic.

Who was John Whitehead?  

John Whitehead worked as the Clerk for Billingham Urban District Council during the mid-1900s.  At the time, the town of Billingham was growing rapidly and he played an important part in developing the facilities needed by its residents. John Whitehead died in 1948 and when the new park was created in the 1950s it was named after him. It was opened formally on 6 July 1957.

News

On the weekend of 23 and 24 September 2023, John Whitehead Park and Billingham town centre will be the venue for the Festival of Thrift - the nationally recognised event championing sustainable living. The area will be transformed for the Festival of Thrift's unique and distinctive weekend of arts, culture and celebration.

Accessible toilets are available at limited times when the café and community hub is open. There is designated disabled parking and surfaced paths.

The Café in the Park, Community Hub and toilets are all operated by Billingham Town Council. The café and toilets are currently open between 10am and 3pm.
