Newham Grange Park

Set in a rolling landscape, Newham Grange Park is a delight at all times of the year. Sometimes known as 'Monkey Tree Park'  it has a play area with artist-designed picnic tables nearby, and one corner of the park is home of the new Butterwick Wood, an area of trees planted in dedication to friends and relatives.

Elm Tree Beck flows through Newham Grange Park and is a tributary of Lustrum Beck. Watercourses are vital for urban wildlife and often act as a green corridor for species such as water voles and even otters that are increasingly common. The small pond at the site was created by a small dam on the beck and is a good place to spot damselflies in the summer months.

A cycleway runs through the heart of the park and then crosses Darlington Lane, continuing to Hardwick Dene Nature Reserve (managed by Tees Valley Wildlife Trust). From Hardwick Dene you can also walk across Darlington Back Lane to the delightful Elm Tree Wood.

News

An orchard with over 70 fruit trees has recently been established in the park. It will be exciting to see the trees mature and start to bear fruit over the coming years. Newton Wonder, Grenadier, Katy, Ashmead's Kernal and Ingrid Marie are just a few of the apple varieties planted, but there is also a great range of pear, plum, damson and cherry trees too.

Accessibility

Surfaced paths provide good access routes through the park. There is no designated disabled parking or toilets.
