Borough landmarks to be lit red in support of anti-racism campaign

Councillors and officers from Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council will also be encouraged to wear red on Friday to mark the charity's annual 'Wear Red Day'.

Established in 1996, Show Racism the Red Card uses the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: "We are always very proud to support Show Racism the Red Card's 'Wear Red Day' campaign and the message is clear that there is absolutely no place in the Borough and beyond for any form of discrimination.

"I must say a big thank you to Councillor Norma Stephenson, who has once again taken a leading role in organising how the Council will mark the day.

"You can show your support by wearing red on Friday and I'd also encourage anyone who is able to donate to the campaign to do so because it does a brilliant job tackling racism across the country."

To make a £1 donation to Show Racism the Red Card text 'RED' to 70470. Text 'RED5' to give £5, 'RED10' to give £10, or 'RED20' to give £20. Texts cost the donation amount plus the standard message rate.
