Cash office closures

Our cash offices located within Stockton, Thornaby and Billingham libraries have now closed permanently.

Reasons for the closures

Following a review of how people paid their bills, the Council found the number of people using their cash offices and the volume of payments processed had fallen by 70% since 2020. The value of the transactions has also reduced.

In recent years handling cash and cheque payments has also become increasingly expensive and now requires additional security. It is no longer cost effective to keep the offices open, and closing them will save Council Tax payers around £150,000 annually.
