We offer a wide ranging and competitive commercial waste collection service, which is available to most types of business within Stockton-on-Tees.

Food waste collections
From 1 April 2025, the legislation for business waste collections is changing.
What are the changes?
Simpler Recycling legislation will see changes to the way businesses separate out their waste. Businesses with more than 10 full time equivalent employees must have separate general waste, recycling and food waste collections by 1 April 2025, businesses with less 10 full time equivalent employees have until 1 April 2027 to ensure separate collections are in place.

What do you need to do?
If you employ more than 10 full time equivalent employees, you must ensure that you have a separate food waste collection in place by 1 April 2025. Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council are offering food waste collections to businesses, if you wish to receive a food waste collection please contact Commercial Waste.

New customers must pay a 13-week upfront non-refundable deposit for food waste collections.
You must sign up to a contract with us for at least 13 weeks, after that you can cancel your contract by giving us 4 weeks' notice.
Important information
Important information regarding food waste collections:
- collections will occur a minimum of weekly; you may stipulate your required collection day
- all food waste must be bagged prior to placing in the food waste container
- any food waste presented loose in containers will be treated as general waste. Cleaning of the container in such cases is the responsibility of the customer
- repeated presentation of loose food waste may result in cancellation of the service
- food waste can be heavy, please ensure that bags are not overfilled as this may result in them splitting

Penalties for failing to manage your trade waste
All businesses that generate any waste as a result of trade have a moral and legal duty to dispose of this rubbish in a responsible way. Using household waste collection services for waste generated by trade is illegal. Failing to have a trade waste agreement with any waste disposal provider is illegal and you can be fined up to £5000. You can report a business that you suspect is failing to meet its waste disposal duties, in confidence, to the Neighbourhood Enforcement Service on 01642 528439 or email civic.enforcement@stockton.gov.uk.
