The service had been temporarily suspended after Government rules left more than a third of bin crew staff in self-isolation.

But staffing numbers have now returned to a level where green waste collections can be restarted.

They will resume for residents next week and will run as usual from Tuesdays to Fridays.

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "We're really pleased to able to bring back our green waste collections, which we know is a really popular service with residents.

"More than a third of our bin crews were required to stay at home at the end of July, but thankfully this number has now stabilised and national rules on self-isolation are set to change next week too which will make it possible for this service to return.

"Thank you to everyone for their patience and also for the support given to our bin crews, who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic."
