How to pay your Council Tax bill
Council Tax Online
Council Tax Online is a convenient and easy way to keep track of your Council Tax account. With a Council Tax Online account you can make payments, change your payment day for Direct Debits, amend your account details, see how much you owe and much more. The online process will show you how easy it is to manage your account online and get your bills electronically.
Sign into or register for a Council Tax Online account
Pay for it online
If you do not want to make a Council Tax Online account, you can also quickly and easily pay your bill online using the pay for it service.
Direct Debit
Direct Debit is the easiest way to pay your Council Tax and you can pick a payment date that suits you (1, 5, 15 or 28 of the month) and you can pay over 10 or 12 monthly instalments.
A Council Tax account allows you to set up a Direct Debit or change your instalments.
You can also use our Direct Debit online payment form to set up a Direct Debit or change your instalments, or pay your Council Tax or Business Rates online.

Online banking
You can pay using your own online banking facility with your bank or building society. Payments should be made to:

Remember to quote your Council Tax number and allow 3 working days for payments to be credited to your account.
Payments over the phone
You can make a payment by phoning our 24-hour automated payment line on 0330 555 6780. You will need your Council Tax account number (located on the front of your bill) and your debit or credit card. Calls to this number are charged at a local rate.
By post
You can send a cheque, made payable to Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, with your address and account number written on the back. If you would like a receipt please enclose a stamped-addressed envelope. Payments should be sent to:

The Councils cash office service has now closed. Visit the cash office closures webpage for more information including paying by cash at a Post Office or Payzone outlet.
Payments at the Post Office or Payzone outlet
To pay at a Post Office or Payzone outlet, you need a Council Tax bill with a barcode. Use our Council Tax contact us form and select the 'I want to tell you about something else option' to arrange for a barcode to be sent to you.
Find your nearest Post Office or Payzone at the Payzone website.
Invoices do not currently have payment bar codes on them, but we expect them to before the end of February.

How to apply for a refund
To apply for a refund you need an online account. Before you apply for a refund you need to log in and check to see if your account is in credit and if you are eligible to apply for a refund.
