Independent Visitors Scheme

We are looking for volunteers to spend time with young people over 8 years old who are in our care and would benefit from having a friendship with someone who would be a good role model and a permanent adult in their life.

Independent visitors need to be consistent and reliable to build a trusting, positive relationship. They should try to become and remain a consistent adult in the child's life who doesn't change when placements or social workers change and stays focused on the child.

Independent visitors befriend and advise the child they are matched with.

The child will have the opportunity to:

  • try new activities (for example bowling, visiting a park, fishing etc)
  • spend time with their independent visitor, away from their placement

Independent visitors are someone to stick up for the child, to promote the empowerment of the child, and to make sure their rights are respected.
