A new campaign has been launched to boost business investment in Stockton-on-Tees and cement its position as the Tees Valley's economic powerhouse.

The Borough is already home to more than 5,500 businesses, including huge global names like FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies, Nifco, Huntsman, Quorn and Venator.

And the 'Invest Stockton-on-Tees' campaign, created by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, aims to lure even more businesses to set up home and grow in the Borough.

It will highlight the Borough's strengths including investment-ready sites, its transport links, workforce and high-achieving schools.

Councillor Nigel Cooke, the Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, said: "There are so many things to celebrate about our Borough and the 'Invest Stockton-on-Tees' campaign is about letting businesses know we should be top of their list when it comes to relocation, start-ups or growth ambitions.

"We're already the economic powerhouse of the Tees Valley and contribute around a third of its entire economic output. That's because this is a fantastic place to do business.

"We're sometimes quite modest about that but it's something we should be shouting from the rooftops.

"We have a famous tradition of innovation and are already home to lots of world-renowned businesses. Indeed, one of the biggest business stories of recent times is about the Novavax coronavirus vaccine being made at Fujifilm in Billingham.

"There's great connectivity too - with Newcastle to the north and Leeds to the south - as well as easy access via road, rail, air or sea.

"We've also got more than 500 hectares of land available and competitive prices on office space, which represents great potential for further business growth in a range of sectors. We'll be stepping up promotion of these sites and opportunities as part of the campaign.

"Ultimately, our message to businesses is a simple one: we're a business-friendly Borough, we're ready and waiting to welcome you, and we have a great team in place to support you at every step of the way.

"We're also very much here to help our existing businesses thrive and grow."

"We work closely with the team at the Council, working with some amazing staff that truly care about the area."

Returnable Packaging Services has been located in Stockton-on-Tees for more than two decades.

Managing Director, Gary Hudson, said: "With excellent transport links, we have a strong foundation to provide nationwide services from the Borough.

"There is an economic vibrancy in the region that brings with it a wide range of businesses from various sectors.

"We're proud to be a part of this community and look forward to what the future brings for our business and the area."
