New state-of-the-art teaching block on the way at Egglescliffe School and Sixth Form

The new state-of-the-art facilities will include classrooms for art, music, geography, maths, ICT and modern foreign languages.

There will also be a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEND) suite and kitchen and dining facilities.

The building is being funded by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council as part of its £52m investment programme to transform school buildings in the Borough.

And the £7.1million three-storey teaching block at the school, already rated as 'outstanding' by Ofsted, includes zero carbon technologies in the design.

Work is due to be completed in February 2023.

Mrs Lindsay Oyston, Head Teacher at Egglescliffe School and Sixth Form, said: "We have wonderful students, committed and talented staff and incredibly supportive parents. However, the school is now in its 60^th year, with many of the facilities no longer fit for purpose. 

"Ensuring there is a high-quality learning environment is key for us and this exciting development funded by the Council will provide modern facilities for both our current and future students.

"This investment will undoubtedly have a positive impact on thousands of young people as well as the wider community in the years ahead." 

Councillor Lisa Evans, the Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "It's incredibly exciting to see the work get underway and the new teaching block is going to look absolutely stunning once completed.

"Given the age of the current school building, it's clear that this is a much-needed facility and it's certain to improve the learning experience for current and future pupils for many years to come.

"The Council is committed to funding improvements for schools across the Borough and that's regardless of whether they are maintained, diocesan or academies. We're also including SEND and pre-school provision as part of our investment.

"Although Councils no longer have the powers to build schools, we are still ensuring that the young people in our Borough get access to the very best platform for their education..
