North Thornaby Town Deal

Funding has been identified as part of Thornaby's Town Deal to improve the security and energy efficiency of housing in North Thornaby.

You may be entitled to free measures to improve the security or energy efficiency of your property through the following schemes. To qualify for any of these measures, first check that your house is in the eligible area.

Security measures

The Council have appointed a dedicated Handyman to carry out home security improvements. He will install a range of security measures to individual dwellings including window alarms, door chains, ultimate property marking kits, 24-hour timers, door handle alarms and locking letter box plate restrictors. The Fire Brigade will also organise home fire safety checks at properties. The Council's Handyman will sign post you to other departments within the Council or other organisations who may be able to help you further.

Qualifying criteria

You must live in the North Thornaby area as set out in the Towns Fund bid.

You must either:

  • own the property
  • privately rent the property
  • live in a property owned by North Star or Thirteen

Energy efficiency measures

The Council have appointed a local contractor, Marshall and McCourt to install energy efficiency measures including:

  • heating replacements such as boilers, radiators, heating controls
  • Solar PV Panels
  • LED lighting

Qualifying Criteria

You must live in the North Thornaby area as set out in the Towns Fund bid. You must also either own the property or privately rent the property.

The Council will make the final decision on whether the proposed installation measures provide value for money. The measures installed must provide one or all of the following benefits:

  • provide financial energy savings for the property
  • increase the SAP rating of the property (measured through the Energy Performance Certificate)
  • provide carbon emission savings for the property

Other Workstreams

Victoria Park Community Hall and Park

The Council has undergone a major transformation of Victoria Hall Community Centre and Park equipment. The Hall reopened in early summer and has been designed for usage of local community groups.

The new play equipment for the park was also installed in the summer of 2023 and has been designed to provide inclusively for all children after consulting with local parents forums.

Empty Houses

The Council is working with North Star Housing to bring a number of empty properties within the North Thornaby area back in use.
