Pension Credit

Pension Credit is a benefit for people aged 66 and over that tops up weekly income for people who have reached State Pension age.

It can help you get extra benefits like:

  • Winter fuel payment
  • help with heating costs
  • help with rent and Council Tax
  • help with the cost of NHS services, for example NHS dental treatment, glasses and transport costs for hospital appointments
  • free TV licence for those aged 75 or over

Pension Credit backdating rules make it is possible to apply for Pension Credit and have the claim backdated by up to 3 months, as long as there is entitlement during that time.

The deadline to apply and still qualify for a Winter Fuel Payment is 21 December 2024.

To check eligibility or to make a claim, visit the GOV.UK Pension Credit webpage or freephone 0800 99 1234.
