Register your food premises
All food businesses in the Borough are legally required to register with us.
If you run a food business for 5 or more days in any 5 consecutive weeks, you must tell us about any premises you use for:
- storing food
- selling food
- cooking food
- distributing food
- preparing food
Examples of food premises
Food premises could include:
- restaurants
- hotels
- cafes
- shops
- supermarkets
- staff canteens
- kitchens in offices
- warehouses
- guest houses
- food delivery vehicles
- buffet cars on trains
- market stalls
- hot dog or ice cream vans
- other mobile catering vehicles
Use of vehicles
If you use vehicles for your food business in connection with permanent premises such as a shop or warehouse, you only need to tell us how many vehicles you have.
If you use vehicles and do not have permanent premises, you must tell us where they are normally kept.
Premises that you do not need to register
Some premises are exempt from registration because they are already registered for food law purposes, examples include:
- certain agricultural premises
- cars
- tents and marquees

How to register
You can complete an application form online to register. You must register with us at least 28 days before starting up. If you have food premises in more than one local authority area, you must register with each authority separately.
There is no charge.
