Whilst fans across the Borough are looking forward to the England match in the European Championships at 8pm on Saturday (July 3), the reminder to stay safe comes as coronavirus cases have been rising in the area.

This week's Covid-19 dashboard for the area has shown 303 cases in the Borough, a rate of 153.5 per 100,000.

That's more than double the number of cases recorded the previous week, which was 140.

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "It's an absolutely massive game on Saturday and I'm looking forward to it as much as anyone, but that doesn't mean we can forget about the coronavirus restrictions currently in place.

"Infection rates in our Borough are still a cause for concern and a telling reminder that we all need to follow the national rules.

"So if you're joining family and friends for the match, stick to the rule of six indoors and make sure you open plenty of windows to keep the fresh air coming in.

"And please also keep to the rule of six if you're heading out to a pub or fan zone to see the game.

"By all means enjoy it as it's a great occasion for the country after a difficult year or so - but please enjoy it safely and responsibly."
