Members of the public are being asked for their thoughts and ideas on proposed improvements to Romano Park in Ingleby Barwick - including additions to the popular play park and ideas for new use for the park's extension.

Proposed improvements for Romano Park are part of a range of improvements to create further open leisure facilities for residents and visitors and are part of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's commitment to investing in its six towns.

The public are invited to offer their ideas for proposed improvements to the existing Romano Park play area and to provide ideas on a range of potential uses for the large, open area south of All Saint's Academy.

The consultation sessions will be held at IB Leisure on Monday 21 February between 4pm and 7pm and on Wednesday 23 February between 10am and 1pm.

There will be an opportunity to discuss proposals with members of the Council's Town Centres Investment Team as well as giving thoughts and ideas for the scheme. Consultation feedback will be collected with the findings shared before designs for both the existing play area and proposed park extension are created.

Responses from the 'Let's Talk About Our Towns' public consultation in 2020 found there was support for improvements to green space and community facilities in the area and the masterplan for Romano Park has been developed to allow it to be more accessible for residents, families and young people to enjoy.

Councillor Nigel Cooke, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "From the public consultation, people told us they wanted more green space and outdoor facilities for young people in Ingleby Barwick.

"The next part of this conversation is to get further input from the community into how we specifically develop the plans for Romano Park. The findings of this will be used to shape the design and use of the area to ensure they meet the needs and aspirations of people in the area."

"The proposals will combine with recent Council investment in the likes of IB Leisure and roadwork improvements in the area to play an important part in serving the community.

"They will provide new uses for our town centres and ensure residents have access to enjoy new ways of leading and active and healthy lifestyle."

The scheme for Romano Park includes improvements to its existing, landscaped play area and Barwick pond nature reserve as well as the opportunity to improve the extension to the park, close to All Saint's Academy.

An online consultation will also be available to complete from Monday 21 February until Friday 4 March for those who are unable to make the sessions.

Following the sessions, members of the public will have the opportunity to view and comment on these designs before they are finalised. Further details on programme will be shared at this stage.
