Demolition of Phoenix House in Thornaby set to begin as part of £23.9million Town Deal
The demolition of the vacant Phoenix House building in Thornaby is set to begin as part of ambitious plans to transform the town as part of the £23.9million Town Deal.
The Council has appointed demolition contractor A.Buckler Ltd to complete the works, which will begin on Monday 17 April. Pre-demolition assessment work will also take place in the days leading up to the start-on-site date.
The demolition is expected to be complete by the summer.
The demolition of the building, which has remained an eyesore in the town centre for a number of years, will enable the creation of a new swimming pool which will connect into the existing Pavilion leisure centre.
Work is currently underway to appoint a contractor for the design and construction works, which are expected to begin later in the year.
Once complete, the existing Thornaby Pool will close, ensuring continuity of provision and a modern, fit for purpose leisure offering for the town.
