Yarm High Street
A package of enhancements is planned to the paved areas on Yarm High Street and the surrounding areas of the town. This will focus on new public spaces in the High Street, enchancing links to and along the River Tees and improvements to the existing playground at Snaith's Field.
The improvements are being funded as part of the £20million from the Government's Levelling Up Fund.
Public Consultation
First phase of consultation - August 2022
Yarm's residents, businesses and visitors were invited to give their input and ideas on plans for improving public spaces and access to the High Street.
The Council asked people to give their views on ways in which Yarm High Street can be improved as part of the overall allocation from the Government's Levelling Up Fund.
This phase of public consultation found that improving footpaths, reducing street clutter, adding more planting, improving connections to the river and more resting and seat spaces were of high importance to respondents.
Second phase of consultation - December 2022
The Council asked for further views on improvements that reflect the priorities identified in the initial consultation. This includes new paving throughout the High Street, de-cluttering of pavements, new landscaping and seating, additional cycle spaces and new electric vehicle charging points. These improvements will result in no loss of parking spaces along the High Street.
A range of potential additional improvements have also been developed in addition to the planned works, including more new areas of paving, extended landscaping, seating and larger public spaces, larger cycle storage areas and more electric vehicle charging points. The additional improvements would bring more enhanced and improved facilities but would result in a loss of some parking areas.

Yarm High Street improvements
A package of enhancements is planned to the paved areas on Yarm High Street. Work will be undertaken on refining the presented proposals to reflect the findings of the consultation and any borader considerations in respect of the High Street and surrounding area.
Particular emphasis is being given on striking an appropriate balance of additional public spaces that reflect both the concerns and support of potential loss of parking across the High Street. These refinements will be reflected in a final scheme which will be available soon.
Snaith's Field
Snaith's Field will benefit from works to upgrade existing play equipment, provision of new seating and resurfacing works to the existing pathway that will make it more accessible.
River Walkways
Improvements to True Lover's Walk will be focused on improving accessibility by resurfacing and repairing root damage to the footpath and improved signage from the High Street to the River Tees.
