Billingham John Walker's Walk, Haverton Hill and the Transporter, family walk instructions

Starting on the north side of the Transporter Bridge near the cafe, head away from the bridge and take the path that runs alongside the industrial plant, PC Logistics.

Follow the path to the right under the bridge and cross the road onto Eastlowthian Street. Continue towards the allotments then take the path to the left with the allotments on your right-hand side. Turn right into the opening between the fences and follow the path to the left walking between the allotments.

Cross the field, across the grassy field on a faint path towards the houses and the tree lined path. Turn right onto the footpath and follow it as it winds to the right then left onto the open wetland area. Look to your right for a great panoramic vista including the Transporter Bridge and the surrounding industrial buildings.

Continue on the footpath until you come to a crossroads.

If you would like to add an extra three quarters of a mile to the walk, turn right at the crossroads. Follow the path for Wildflower Walk which is a loop that takes in Haverton Viewpoint, a popular bird watching spot. When you have returned again to the crossroads, turn left and follow the rest of the instructions.

If you would like to miss the extra Wildflower Walk loop, turn left at the crossroads.

Follow the path through the wetlands until you reach the end of the path. Exit between the large boulder and the metal fence.

Head left parallel to the road over the grass and follow it around to the left behind the houses.

The field opens up behind the houses and you have a great view of the Transporter Bridge once again. Continue straight until you cross the footpath that connects Holly Terrace to the wetlands. Veer to the right with High Clarence Primary School on your right.

Walk into the housing estate, passing between the boulder and fence onto Laburnum Grove. Continue on Victoria Terrace and Queens Terrace, passing the playground and sports courts on your right.

Turn right onto Eastlowthian Street then left onto Port Clarence Road.  Follow this to the end of the main road and turn right under the bridge.

Head to the left on the footpath towards the riverbank. Turn right with the Transporter Bridge in front of you. Continue on the footpath until you reach the bridge and you have completed the loop.
