Council apprentices off to a flying start!
Electricians, adult care assistants and civil engineers are among the enthusiastic apprentices who are taking up their posts at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council this week.
The Council has employed the 40 apprentices after a successful recruitment programme saw 599 people apply to start their careers with the authority.
As one of the largest employers in the Borough, the Council set out to recruit dozens of apprentices to develop its skilled workforce and attract motivated and talented people.
And the Council is paying all of these apprentices at or above the National Minimum Wage, which is higher than the standard rate of pay for apprenticeships.
Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "We were really heartened by the huge response we received to our recruitment drive.
"We have a great track record of providing apprenticeships to people from all backgrounds with all levels of experience and made these opportunities available to anyone aged 16 and above.
"As a former apprentice myself, many years ago, I know the value of gaining daily experience in the workplace and how it can offer so many opportunities to progress, develop and build their career.
"I'm delighted to welcome each and every one of these new apprentices starting their career with us and I hope that they enjoy learning their trade while serving the people of the Borough."
