Registration is open for the beginner, intermediate and elite distances, all taking off from Stockton Riverside on Sunday 14 April.

All races follow a run-cycle-run format. The three distances to choose from are:

  • Novice - 2k run, 10k cycle, 1k run
  • Sprint - 5k run, 20k cycle, 2.5k run
  • Standard - 10k run, 40k cycle, 5k run

Cash prizes are up for grabs for the first (£500), second (£300) and third (£200) placed males and females in the Standard distance race. All participants will receive goodie bags and medals.

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: "The Duathlon is an opportunity for athletes of all abilities to get involved in a brilliant sporting event held in the Borough.

"It's also a great day out for spectators, as the multi-lap cycle route means the bikes can be seen up to four times per lap and there are a number of trade stands.

"Stockton Duathlon is just one of the exciting sporting events coming to Stockton this year, with Stockton Cycling Festival, the Simplyhealth Great Tees 10k and the Great North CityGames Tees Valley to look forward to."

The cycling element is on closed roads, and the running routes take in the picturesque Stockton Riverside as well as the Tees Barrage.

The Sprint and Standard races will act as GB Age Group Team qualifiers for the 2020 ITU World Championships.

The Duathlon is hosted by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council in partnership with TriHard and is supported by British Triathlon.
