'It's a flat route, you can do it at your own pace and you'll have people cheering you on!' - still time to enter the 10k

There's still time to enter Saturday's (September 7) Simplyhealth Great Tees 10k - but you'll need to act quickly.

The run starts and finishes a stone's throw away from Stockton High Street, where the Great North CityGames takes place later in the day.

Entries for the run, which follows a flat route hugging the banks of the Tees, close at 10am on Thursday (September 5).

There are also places left for the Mini and Junior versions of the run, which cater for three to 14-year-olds.

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: "The fact this is a 10k rather than a marathon or half-marathon makes it accessible to pretty much anyone.

"It's a flat and very pleasant riverside route taking in landmarks like the Infinity Bridge, Tees Barrage and Newport Bridge and you can do it at your own pace. Plus you'll have people cheering you on along the route.

"And when you're finished you can stick around and watch world-class athletes competing in the Great North CityGames on Stockton High Street.

"There'll be all kinds of events including the 100m, 110m hurdles, 400m, pole vault and long jump. It's going to be a great day."

What's the route?

The 10k, Junior and Mini runs all follow flat, closed routes that start and finish on Riverside Road near the Princess of Wales Bridge.

Runners of the 10k pass the Infinity Bridge and Tees Barrage on the river's north side before crossing the historic Newport Bridge.

They then travel back on the south side of the river passing the Maze Park Nature Reserve and Durham University International Study Centre at Queen's Campus.

They cross the river once more over the Princess of Wales Bridge before finishing on Stockton's riverside.

The course for the shorter 4k Junior, for nine to 14-year-olds, crosses the river at the Tees Barrage, while the 2k Mini course, for three to eight-year-olds, crosses the river at the Infinity Bridge.
