It's all go at the Globe - and you can now sign-up for ticket announcements!

The restoration of Stockton's famous Globe is progressing at a pace.

Stockton Globe theatre construction

Structural work to strengthen the Grade II-listed Art Deco building's walls is complete and work to strip the paint from its frontage is set to get under way.

Next door in 153 High Street, a reinforcing steel structure is being installed to support the building's façade.

The structure will enable major rebuilding inside to create an exciting new independent venue alongside the Globe - one which can thrive in its own right.

Meanwhile the Globe's operator, Ambassador Theatre Group, has launched a mailing list so music and comedy fans can be first to hear ticket news and announcements.

Councillor Nigel Cooke, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, said: "It's great to see work progressing both in the Globe and in neighbouring 153 High Street and even more exciting is ATG's launch of the Globe mailing list.

"We met with Adam Kenwright and ATG's senior management team last month and it's very clear that they're as excited as we are about bringing this magical venue back to life and bringing the stars back to Stockton.

"They're very much on with lining-up big name acts now and their message to anyone who doesn't want to miss out on ticket news is to get yourself on the mailing list."

The Globe will open in Spring 2020 and will be the biggest live entertainment venue between Newcastle and Leeds.

Its restoration is being funded by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and a £4.5million National Lottery grant through the National Lottery Heritage Fund's Heritage Enterprise scheme.
