Professional and recreational riders can now choose the distance that suits their ability best as registrations for the ninth Stockton Sportive go live.

The unique challenges take place on Saturday 13 July with four routes ranging from 36 to 106 miles on offer:

  • SPIN - 36.7 miles - perfect for first time Sportive riders and people returning to cycling with no major climbs to navigate

  • SPORT - 50 miles - ideal for progressing riders and cyclists with previous experience, this very scenic route offers some large climbs

  • CHALLENGE - 72 miles - taking you deep into the North Yorkshire moors, this stunning trek features tough climbs and exhilarating descents

  • LE TOUR DE MOOR - 105.8 miles - simply the toughest yet most rewarding Sportive route.

Every ride departs with an escorted start, just like the Tour de France, and the routes will have feeding stations, a broom wagon and support throughout.

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "We're delighted that the Sportive is returning as part of the Stockton Cycling Festival.

"It's one of our most popular events across the year and it offers the right level of challenge for people new to cycling and those who are old hands at whizzing around on two wheels.

"Stockton Cycling Festival is just one of the great sporting events taking place here this year. In September, the Great North CityGames will arrive for the first time and the high street will host world class athletes competing against the very best of our home-grown talent. On the same day, the Simplyhealth Great Tees 10k, Junior and Mini runs are also happening on the Riverside - there'll be something for the whole family to enjoy or do this summer in Stockton-on-Tees.

"There's always a buzzing atmosphere at the Sportive and there'll be hundreds of cyclists encouraging each other on. Spaces are limited so I'd strongly advise people to sign up and push themselves to take on what will be a hugely rewarding and adrenaline-charged challenge!"

Prices range from £20 to £30 depending on the route chosen. No entries will be accepted on the day.
