A large crowd gathered beside the River Tees for an unforgettable show, as dazzling acrobatics and a flourish of pyrotechnics wowed the crowds.

The finale was the UK premiere of Hotel Watercage by Theater Tol and portrayed the battle between head and heart as the show's characters see life, and each other, from another perspective.

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: "Hotel Watercage was a truly fitting way to mark the end of this year's SIRF after a fantastic four days here in Stockton.

"The finale was emotionally evocative and a real spectacle for the many people who gathered to experience it.

"Thank to you all of the performers who have given us such wonderful entertainment over the weekend. I'd like to give special thanks to the army of volunteers, more than a thousand people overall who gave their time and effort, as well as our dedicated council staff who all make the festival happen.

"And, of course, the show wouldn't go on without the residents of the Borough and our visitors from further afield who have supported another thrilling edition of the festival. I can't wait for next year!"

SIRF is supported by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and Arts Council England.
