Budding volunteers should head to Stockton-on-Tees markets from Wednesday (June 2).

A range of charities and organisations will be represented at Billingham, Stockton and Thornaby markets to mark Volunteers' Week.

Visitors to the markets can learn more about the range of volunteering openings available around the Borough, from helping people with shopping to being a nature volunteer with the RSPB.

A stall will be at Stockton High Street on Wednesday, June 2 and Saturday, June 5.

There'll also be a stall at Thornaby town centre on Thursday, June 3 and at Billingham town centre on Monday, June 7.

Each stall has been put on by Stockton Volunteers, run by Catalyst Stockton in partnership with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Access, Communities and Community Safety, said: "This is a great chance for anyone looking to get involved in volunteering in the Borough and each stall will of course be run in a Covid-secure and socially distanced way. Don't forget your mask!

"And don't worry if you can't make it down to the markets as there's lots of great content on the Stockton Volunteers website.

"There are many other great activities going on across Volunteers' Week, like the virtual coffee morning taking place on Friday (June 4). Keep your eye on the Catalyst and Council social media channels to find out more.

"We're also launching our new Volunteering Strategy this week which sets out a vision for great volunteering in the Borough. We'll be turning our feature lighting red and purple on Tuesday as a sign of recognition and thanks for all the great work that our brilliant volunteers do. "The coronavirus pandemic has really highlighted the vital role volunteers play and I'd urge everyone to get involved if they can."

Volunteers' Week is taking place from Tuesday, June 1 until Tuesday, June 8.
