Fairfield by-election 2024

A by-election took place on Thursday 19 September to elect two Borough Councillors for the Fairfield Ward.

Register to vote

You must be registered to vote at this election. It's quick and easy to register to vote online by visiting the Gov.uk website. You need to have done this by midnight on Tuesday 3 September. If you can't register online, please contact our Voter Registration Helpline on 01642 526196 and we will arrange a paper application for you.

Ways to vote

Voting in person

You can find out where your polling station is by checking your poll card, which will be delivered to you in advance of the election. The polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.

Please note that you will need a valid form of photo ID to vote in person. You can check the accepted forms of ID on the Electoral Commission website. If you haven't got a valid photo ID, you'll need to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (or VAC). You can apply for a free VAC on the Voter ID application page. You'll need to do this before 5.00pm on Wednesday 11 September 2024.

Voting by post or by proxy

You can apply for a postal vote and join 47,000 others in the Borough who have already registered. If you want a postal vote for these elections, make sure you apply early: before 5pm on Wednesday 4 September. There's more information about postal voting on our Ways to Vote page.

Voting by proxy means that you appoint someone you trust to vote on your behalf and is a convenient way of voting if you are unable to get to the polling station. Contact the Voter Registration Helpline on 01642 526196 to register for a proxy vote before 5.00pm on Wednesday 11 September 2024.
